ABOUT ZEITGEIST

Willie Geist has maintained since 1996 that the Internet, like the automobile and the television before it, is a fad. He gets his information from microfiche at the public library and communicates with friends through the good old-fashioned United States Postal Service, thank you very much.

So then why is he blogging? Two words: community service. After an ugly incident at his weekly Sudoku game, Willie was sentenced to speak to young people about anger management. He heard that "young people" looked at the Internet, so the blog became his punishment. It's Willie's way of giving back.

In Zeitgeist, you'll find the kind of expert analysis of news and pop culture that has made Willie one of the most beloved figures in American life today (you can look it up). You'll also get raw, behind-the-scenes footage from MSNBC. You'll even get to talk back to Willie. So give the blog a try and catch the Internet fad before it's gone for good.

Posted: Wednesday, June 27, 2007 5:24 PM by Sam Go

In today's Zeitgeist: US Weekly takes the moral high road by excluding Paris Hilton from their upcoming issue. Will they lead the mag with the Iraq war...or pictures of Britney's butt? Plus, Willie Geist examines one of the greatest, most anticipated gadgets in human history -- the iPhone. And we salute a classic cable news car chase. WATCH VIDEO

Kudos to US Weekly for not allowing greed to over ride morals!
bummer. Now I won't have anything dumb to read while standing in the checkout line.
Amen to Sandi's comment.  I am sick & tired of having the media go "gaa-gaa" over these spoiled rich kids - Paris, Lindsay, Britney, et al - who think the laws do not apply to them, only to the 'common' person.  Too bad TV, other mags and the Internet do not follow suit.
Who cares about Paris Hilton??? In this day and age of major crisis going on in the United States and our World, why, oh why would anyone care about HER?? US Weekly, my hats off to you. Kudos!!
Paris overcame a corrupt court and judge and reflects that toughness of American public has and always will show itself over the corrupt and biased legal system of California and other states.

Incidentally, seeing Britneys butt would be more interesting than most of the stuff in US Weekly. Of the thousands of judges our country, does it believe that there arent many that should be removed?
Bravo US Weekly...
I'm glad to see you not running shallow stories about shallow people.
Paris - get over yourself.
Suggestion - get away from your mother.
Perhaps US Weekly can do an article on why the city attorneys wife didnt get jail time for driving on a supended license?
Every magazine needs to stop writing about Hilton.  She has stated that the media is her problem.  Leave her alone and stop the publicity.  She feeds on the publicity. She is her own worse enemy and without the media she might be able to focus on her own personal or inner conflicts. Leave her alone and let her finally find herself or spiritual being, if possible.
I am so sick of Paris! Unless you are talking about a city in France, I don't want to hear it anymore. Please remind me, Why is she important?
Thank goodness someone has decided enough is enough. This girl hasn't done anything to deserve all of this press, people go to jail every minute of every day to pay for what they shouldn't of done.
they did the right thing. it is good to ignore such convicts who are danger to other drivers on the roads. i pity larry king's stateman ship for interviewing her.
I would just like to comment on the best thing I have seen in years. Mika Brzezinski on msnbc, being forced by producers to read yet another worthless story on Paris hilton, REFUSED to read the story! After tearing the first copy up, and then shredding a second that was handed to her yet again, she went on to important issues that our public so quickly forgets about. I applaud Mika and the staff that took part in that broadcast. From a somewhat younger generation (25-30 years of age), It has been the talk of the town. I truelly believe that you have stumbled onto something good. Keep up the good work! I now will only be watching msnbc! US weekley...the same applies to you!!!!! KUDOS
Sincerly,
Actually concerned about real news!
PARIS SEEMS VERY CALM OUT OF JAIL, IS IT ALL AN ACT?
I compliment Mika for shredding the paris copy on msnbc morning. Fellow "journalists" should follow her lead and do likewise. First it was anna the stupid, now it is paris....the stupid. I do not care about her. It bears repeating, I do not care about her.
Please stop bombarding us with "updates" about her sitting in jail. Oh,she's out...I don't care because I selfishly want real news.
   Michael from Tucson

I wish every other source of news and entertainment would boycott Paris as well, not just US Weekly.  How much more of her must we be subjected to?
Thanks, I am sick of hearing about poor Paris. I am glad someone is taking a stand.  Thanks!!!
Willie, you have inherited great genes...hope your daughter inherits them too...when are you going to send Tucker back into the obscurity he crawled out of and take over the show...I am a 60 year old that fights wildlane fires for fun...do you think you could arrange a couple of rounds in the ring with Bildo Oreally???
Cheers!  I don't know why she gets so much publicity anyway.
Now that the world's most beloved political, religious prisoner has been released from a prison where she earned her Nobel Peace Prize, the Pulitzer, cured cancer, brought about world peace, and established a new utopian society, can the rest of us get back to our normal lives?
I can only hope that other forms of media will follow US Weekly. Thank you US Weekly...
Could not agree more!!
I COMMEND you US!!!!  OTHERS NEED TO DO THE SAME
Glad to hear it. We're sick of Paris.
Thank you and Bravo US Weekly - However, I still would like to know if she would have been sentenced to 90 days with 45 days reduced if her drunk driving had killed someone? She stated this morning on National News that her punishment was too harsh. Now that is newsworthy....
Our country is at war our soldiers are beiong killed, Americans are going hungry, who cares what happens to Paris Hilton.
As Americans we should be focusing on helping the poor & hungry right here in our country not on some rich sob.
Hip-Hip Horray! Good going US Weekly! :)
who cares about paris sick of hearing about her
I have avoided reading anything about Paris since her release, have not watched the news when she comes on, or watched her interview. Thank you US Weekly! I hope others follow suit!
Good for You!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would rather hear about real people that have actually done something to better our world.
Come on Bill.  News is news and Paris Hilton is news.  So what if US Weekly drops the ball...this self-censoring PCism is just more nonsense from the media elete who in some strange way have set themselves up as a silly moral standard...even my bird won't s**t on US Weekly any more.
It seems to always amaze me, but more so in recent months, how this ridiculous country of ours - with a C average president- continuously tries so hard to create a Princess Diana figure for America. And yet, always manage to find the sluttiest candidates, ie.. Marilyn Monroe, Anne Nichole, Paris Hilton.... See the trend.
WTG!!, US Weekly! All the media ahould do that. Everyone is sick of Paris. Let that happen to one of our children...they would lock them up in a heartbeat and no media.
Who cares about Paris Hilton?  Today with crises happening in the world, and worthy of reporting, why would anyone care about her and all the spoiled rich kids who feel they are above the law.  Let's focus on what is truly important in our lives.  Thank you US Weekly..we hope others follow your lead.  Hat's off to journalist Mika Brzezinski.  Thank you.
