ABOUT ZEITGEIST

Willie Geist has maintained since 1996 that the Internet, like the automobile and the television before it, is a fad. He gets his information from microfiche at the public library and communicates with friends through the good old-fashioned United States Postal Service, thank you very much.

So then why is he blogging? Two words: community service. After an ugly incident at his weekly Sudoku game, Willie was sentenced to speak to young people about anger management. He heard that "young people" looked at the Internet, so the blog became his punishment. It's Willie's way of giving back.

In Zeitgeist, you'll find the kind of expert analysis of news and pop culture that has made Willie one of the most beloved figures in American life today (you can look it up). You'll also get raw, behind-the-scenes footage from MSNBC. You'll even get to talk back to Willie. So give the blog a try and catch the Internet fad before it's gone for good.

A disturbing religious tradition has babies being dropped 50 feet off a building and somehow landing unharmed. Willie Geist has the shocking video. Watch video.

hey every country has a silver lining, one bad thing doesnt mean the whole country or people are crazy.
What the hell is wrong with these people, have they never heard of shaken Baby syndrome? When they hit their little brain is bounced inside the skull, that is why many children die when shaken.I cannot understand how some people call this sane, there is no reason, religion?custom? Not to push my beliefs on them , however if that is custom, then it's time to change, we live in a different era, not prehistoric.
Your video caption reads: "A disturbing religious tradition" and you narrated that this practice is "observed by some Hindus and Muslims". These two comments are contradictory.

If this practice is observed by most Indians, then you may call it an Indian tradition, but if it is observed by some Indians, it could be a local tradition that cannot be generalized to India. This would be like describing the Aboriginal traditions as Australian tradition.

If baby throwing is observed by Hindus, then this practice is religious in nature and it is practiced by Hindus, likewise if it is a Muslim practice. You cannot be a Hindu and a Muslim at the same time. Commingling Indian traditions with Hindus religion and the altogether different Muslim religion is not appropriate and it is misleading at best.

The Hindu and Muslim religions are absolutely different faiths. In fact, these differences have led to the creation of Pakistan. Emphatically, the baby throwing practice is most likely limited to a small spot somewhere on the vast and strange Indian lands. Your generalization is very disturbing to all, the Indian tradition, the Hindu religion and the Muslim religion.

What do you feel if I report your story about the thief who masked his head with a duct tape by saying: “Here is a disturbing story from the North American Christian tradition: A North American Christian masked his head to conceal his identity while committing….”. It doesn’t sound right, does it? The insertion of the words American and Christian in the story would reveal a journalistic bias, exactly as you did on the baby throwing story.
Another great religious experience. Maybe all those men had that done to them when they were babies.  That might explain this very sick behavior.  And the press got all upset over the Michael Jackson dangling baby story.  May he was just practicing his new religion.  So am I suppose to be surprised at what is being said and done in churches in the USA. Religion don't you just love it.
was that MichaelJackson tossing the babies.Perhaps Obama should try this to make him stronger!
Those babies are lovin' it.

"Wheeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!"
Indian people are really nice, but they have way too much time on their hands. They have baby tossings, mustache tricks, all sorts of fun things. When do they work?
I thougth the baby tossing while interesting was slightly reminiscent of Michael Jackson's holding his baby over the window on the 2nd level or was that the third.  Does that damage the childrens backs?
